Outbound lead generation, from who to reach to the first conversation.
Updated 26 September 2026
Outbound lead generation means reaching out first: choosing the companies and people who should hear from you, contacting them with a reason to talk, and turning their replies into sales conversations. Scipioform runs it for software and tech companies, and, as an outbound-only engagement, for B2B service companies. A founder-led team does the work, and part of our fee is at risk on the result.
Most outbound fails before the first email is sent
That's our view, from reading a lot of outreach, not a statistic (terms defined here). By the time a campaign launches, three decisions have usually been made badly or not at all: who is on the list, why they'd want to talk now, and how big the first ask is.
Sending more doesn't fix any of them, and a campaign that goes to spam never gets the chance to fail on its merits. Why cold emails go to spam
So we start with who you should be talking to, and only then do the talking. See a cold email taken apart and rebuilt
The outbound process, step by step
- Decide who. The companies most likely to buy, the roles that decide, and just as important, who to leave out. We propose, you agree.
- Build the list. Companies first, then the people in them, checked before anything is sent. You agree the list. We build, you agree.
- Find the reason to talk. Something true about the prospect's situation that makes a conversation worth their time now. Without it, the rest is volume. We.
- Write, and approve. Short messages built on that reason, with one small ask. You approve every message before it goes out. We write, you approve.
- Set up sending. Separate secondary domains, never your primary domain, in your own accounts. Sending volume and warm-up practice are set in writing. We.
- Send, and read every reply. Every reply is read and answered, including the ones that say no. The no-replies tell you whether the targeting is right. We.
- Hand over, and report. Replies that meet the written definition of qualified come to you to take forward. Every result is reported as "X from Y", including the misses. We hand over, you follow up.
We commit to named deliverables by named dates: your target list, your messaging, sending infrastructure live and a weekly report, with a pro-rata refund for any we miss. Terms §3.3
Outbound or inbound?
Inbound waits for buyers to find you: content, search, referrals. It compounds, but slowly, and you don't choose who arrives. Outbound goes to the buyers you choose, now, and tells you sooner whether a segment and a message work.
Most companies need both eventually. When you have a product customers use and no steady flow of new conversations, outbound is usually the faster way to learn who buys.
Two ways to start
With the diagnostic
If you're not sure who your next customers should be, we work that out first, in writing, for one fixed fee, refunded in full if you don't find it worth acting on. The pilot's target is then set from what it finds.
Outbound only
If you already know exactly who you need to reach, you can go straight to the pilot: a fixed term, with part of our fee at risk against a threshold we write down with you. How outbound only works
How to judge any outbound agency, including us
Ask what counts as a result, in writing; what happens to the fee if it doesn't come; who owns the list, the domains and the replies; whether you'll see every reply or only the wins; and who approves what's sent in your name. The full list, with what a good answer looks like
Questions
Do you only do outbound for software companies?
Mostly software and tech companies. We also run outbound-only engagements for B2B service companies: the same founder-led team, a narrower scope.
How is outbound lead generation priced?
Most providers charge per meeting booked or by a monthly retainer. We do neither: a fixed-fee diagnostic, then a fixed-term pilot with part of the fee at risk, then month to month. Our fee levels aren't published yet; your fee is quoted as a fixed figure, in writing, before anything is signed.
What do you need from us?
Three things: approving messages and lists on time, agreeing the target list with us, and following up on the conversations we hand over. The at-risk refund depends on them.
Can you review the outreach we already send?
Yes. Send it to us and we'll mark it up in writing: who it's aimed at, why they'd answer, what it claims, and what it asks for. It's private unless you say otherwise.
